We (Dickinson PD North Dakota) received several inquiries from citizens asking us if we are conducting traffic stops on citizens who are displaying good driving behavior and handing out gift cards. This is untrue. Dickinson PD in TEXAS is currently instituting this program. Please ensure you are following the correct police department on Facebook. Several news media outlets and blogs initially reported the incorrect department as well, and we are attempting to contact these organizations so they can issue an accurate report. Please share our post to help us correct this situation!

At Dickinson PD in North Dakota, we do not conduct traffic stops without reasonable suspicion and would not participate in a program like this. Though the Texas department's intentions are probably good, traffic stops are already dangerous enough as it is, and we believe community bonding and enforcing good driving habits can be accomplished in much safer ways. Your Constitutional rights are near and dear to our hearts, and we strive daily to nurture the trust between you and us.

You may have noticed we have changed our Facebook name to "Dickinson Police Department - North Dakota" in hopes future confusion can be avoided.

We have a series of officer testimonials to share with you over the next few weeks as a part of our recruitment video series. This week, meet Officer Justin White. Officer White came to us from the United States Air Force, where he served as a security forces airman at the Minot Air Force Base. He is currently assigned to the patrol division on C Shift, and is also a member of our SWAT team. Officer White will be attending a Less-Lethal Munitions Instructor course this spring and will be the team's next instructor for tear gas, bean bag rounds, and flashbangs.

We have many military veterans serving amongst our ranks. Vets have a special skill set and bearing, which makes them prime candidates for law enforcement. Sound like you? We'd love to hear from you - apply with us today!

Sergeant Dave Wallace Retires

After nearly three decades of service, Sergeant Dave Wallace announced his retirement this week. SGT Wallace started with the Dickinson Police Department on March 2nd of 1988. During his tenure, he wore many hats to include patrol supervisor, patrol division commander, community services officer, school resource officer, and agent with the narcotics task force, just to name a few. During his off time from the police department, SGT Wallace was also a paramedic with the Dickinson Ambulance Service, adding to his tremendous dedication and service to the citizens of Dickinson and the surrounding area. To add to his legacy, all of SGT Wallace’s children have ultimately chose to follow in his footsteps. Eldest son David JR is a Sergeant with the Stark County Sheriff’s Department, Jason is a patrol officer with Dickinson PD, and daughter Cori just graduated from the police academy and also serves with the Dickinson PD. We would like to thank Dave for his years of service and dedication to the police department and to the community. We wish you the best of luck in your... read more

New public safety software goes “live” at DPD

After about four months of configuration and testing, Dickinson PD went “live” with its newest public safety software, Zuercher Technologies, on Tuesday, February  2nd. Zuercher offers a more robust and stable product than the department’s previous vendor. For example, officers and dispatchers are now able to see the exact GPS location of patrol vehicles using Automatic Vehicle Locators (AVLs), which will assist with response time and increase officer safety. Zuercher Technologies, which is based in Sioux Falls, SD, was the sole bidder for the department’s RFP in 2015. The company has hundreds of law enforcement clients around the country, as well as numerous agencies in North... read more
